The Highlands Denver neighborhood offers convenient access to the city's core, just mere minutes northwest of downtown Denver.
This makes the Highlands an attractive option for those who want to live in a neighborhood in Denver with a neighborhood feel while still being close to the urban indulgences of downtown. Not to mention the highway access as it resides just West of the intersection of Major Highways 25 and 70.
So what makes the Highlands such a special place to live?
Close Knit Neighborhood Vibe
The Highlands is characterized by weekly farmers markets that run through the summer, and street fairs featuring live music and art vendors that happen on a more frequent than not basis- there seems to be something always going on in this hip neighborhood that draws crowds from near and far. When someone says, “I want to live in a Denver neighborhood with a local’s atmosphere, where I can walk to my coffeeshop before work, or catch a yoga class”-THIS is it.
Walkability and Bikeability
The Highlands is considered one of the most walkable and bike-friendly neighborhoods in Denver. Tree-lined streets, pedestrian-friendly infrastructure, and bike lanes make it easy for residents to get around without a car. You can ride your bike both easily to downtown Denver or further west to the foothills, or to one of the main Highlands’ hubs at Highlands Square or Tennyson St. for a variety of trendy restaurants and shops to choose from.
Cultural Diversity
The Highlands is known for its cultural diversity, with a mix of longtime residents and newcomers from various backgrounds. This diversity is reflected in the neighborhood's cultural events, food, and community initiatives.
Architectural Diversity
In addition to historic homes, the Highlands has seen significant new development, leading to a mix of architectural styles from victorians dating back to the late 19th and early 20th centuries, to craftsman bungalows, to the unique "Denver Square" style, and historic row homes. This blend of old and ultra-modern architecture creates a dynamic and visually interesting environment. The variety of home styles in the Highlands ensures that there is something for everyone, whether you prefer historic charm or modern convenience.
Not to Miss
The dining! How do you choose just one restaurant in a sea of many? The answer is you can’t. A few of my favorites include: Bakeryfour for absolutely delicious pastries, Hops and Pie for killer pizza and beer, and Spuntinos for a memorable elevated Italian dinner- I could go on and on and on.
There are many names and sub neighborhoods that make up this area from LoHi (lower highlands), to Berkley, to West Highlands, to Sunnyside. Although little pocket neighborhood differences and attractions do vary from street to street, and block to block, this general area is what is oftentimes referred to as the Highlands area of Denver-and it truly is what its all cracked up to be!
